Michael Matthews

The thing that keeps me going as an artist is clearly the excitement of discovery that one feels on occasion - that giddy experience when all forces of the universe seem to converge in front of your eyes and a miracle has occurred. These "Ah-Ha" moments don't necessarily indicate the completion of a work, and can occur at any point along the trajectory from inception to completion, but they signal a quantum leap in the artist's ability to realize his vision. Understanding the work of other artists is key to this process. Most recently I've been excited by art from Southeast Asia.
