Remembrance of things past was the title of a large print I completed during my undergraduate years. I had forgotten it until I sat down to write about my work today. Black etched flowers, like unopened poppies, struggled up to the sky from a base of red. I didn't know it then but it heralded the core issue of my work for the next thirty years. After three decades of witnessing, listing, categorizing and atoning for our culture's ambivalent attitudes toward nature I am now doing work that witnesses the present moment. Movement and light are more evident. Two former series: Parts and Witness are sensuous, dark, meditations offering hidden warnings. My present work involves the same subject matter but the warnings have been lifted. For the moment, anyway.
